I really can't decide which way to go with regards to creating my website. Do I use regions/blocks everywhere? Do I use the Panels module? Do I use the Chaos page manager?

I've been using Wordpress for too long; all these different options for doing the same thing are confusing me, and preventing me from getting anywhere!

I'm currently just going with blocks; though, when I use Views to create a block, the filtering and fields aren't correct.

As it currently stands, this question is not a good fit for our Q&A format. We expect answers to be supported by facts, references, or expertise, but this question will likely solicit debate, arguments, polling, or extended discussion. The question should be more specific; without to provide more details about the site is impossible to give the correct answer about which modules to use. The general rule is to use a module if you use more than the 2% of its functionalities/features. – kiamlaluno Aug 21 '11 at 1:49

Each day with Drupal you will learn more ways to resolve your needs.

If I understand well, you need flexibility to create places to your information. Correct?

If so, Blocks an Regions is only one way to do that (you can call this "the basic/default way") and, I guess, that is the most common way to place pieces of information. If you feel that is suitable for your needs, then your task was done! Other ways are alternatives. If you do not feel comfortable with Blocks and regions, you can use Panels, or other modules, or customize your templates, or build your own templates, etc., that are alternatives that you must use according to your needs and your Drupal knowledge.

Well, I guess I'll just go with regions + blocks as that's easy enough. Thanks – Vertaxe Aug 21 '11 at 1:51
The problem I'm having now is the block I created using the Views module is not filtering or displaying correctly - its meant to display only 'projects' but it displays all content types. – Vertaxe Aug 21 '11 at 1:58
hello Vertaxe, the Q&A format of Drupal Answers suggest divide your question in separate questions, because are different topics, but I understand that you are new in Drupal, so you do not know that are different topics. your question is related with Views, and I suggest make another question in Drupal Answers to explain in more detail this specific issue to recieve answer to this specific questions. – cigotete Aug 21 '11 at 2:09
I think that you must review the Filters (according your content type) of your view to display only 'projects'. – cigotete Aug 21 '11 at 2:12
