Aug 24, 2015 at 13:06 comment added astrosa Excellent! This accomplishes exactly what I was looking for, and via a very user friendly interface. I agree that it is also a nice alternative to modifying .htaccess directly. Thanks very much :)

Aug 24, 2015 at 5:42 comment added Pierre.Vriens Indeed, Rules takes a little effort (learning) to get started with it (so is Views, and Flag ...). Thought I'd add my "PS" to this answer also here. Even though (to my knowledge) it does NOT cover 'Rules URL Argument', for me it was the "Key to the (Rules) kingdom" ...

Aug 24, 2015 at 5:28 comment added othermachines @Pierre.Vriens - Agreed on all counts. The down side to Rules (7.x) is it's a bit hard to wrap your head around, at first, but once you do it's awesomely powerful.
Aug 24, 2015 at 5:24 comment added Pierre.Vriens "Let others spread nice words about you ...", merci (= thank you) @othermachines ! FYI: to me the Rules module is becoming more and more like a "site building programming language", wouldn't you agree? The beauty of it being also that it should be relatively simply to upgrade such kind of "cutomizations" from D7 to D8 also. And I'd vote for Rules (and flag ...) to be considered as being moved to core in D9 ... Together with Views (in D8 core) you could do a lot of things with just D9 core ...

Aug 24, 2015 at 5:12 comment added othermachines I just tested the Rules URL Argument module and it works nicely. Definitely one to keep in the toolbox. Well done. I vote that this should be the accepted answer.

Aug 24, 2015 at 4:56 comment added othermachines I see you can access the URL of the current page by adding the action "Add a variable", Type is text, and Value is [site:current-page:url]. But then how to get the value of 'name' from the URL query? If @Pierre.Vriens can fill out his answer with this info I would vote to have it accepted (regardless of which route you take) since a lot of folks don't have access to edit their .htaccess file. (Plus it keeps your question on-topic. :) )
Aug 24, 2015 at 4:21 comment added astrosa Thanks. I was able to get the text match working (although I used contains /content?name= instead of regular expression), but I get stuck on the point that @othermachines mentioned. How do I now pass the [name] variable into the redirect action? Is there a way to tell Rules to grab whatever is after ?name= in the original url and use that?
Aug 23, 2015 at 20:51 comment added othermachines This is interesting. So can you pass arguments from the original path to the redirect action? Since the poster wants to redirect /content?name=[name] to /content/[name], it might be helpful to show this.
