I am new to drupal and php. I want to be able to give users a custom logout message based on their role. But, but on logout the $user$user variable is no longer avaliableavailable. What is the best way to do

How can I achieve this? I figured the key might be with $_SESSION, during login, but I am not sure extactlyexactly how to store user role in the session? Any suggestions?.
