Jul 12, 2013 at 20:35 comment added Jimajamma Ah. Well let us all know if we can take another whack at it. If it is something like www.yourhost.com/some/path#latlong the #latlong is in fact being sent to the backend, that's an anchor tag, it will just be basically ignored if it doesn't exist on the server (but it certainly can be seen by drupal). Cheers!
Jul 12, 2013 at 16:08 comment added therobyouknow I've also just realised that my particular situation does not apply - I wanted the long lat part of the URL for openlayer maps to be passed back in - 2 issues: 1) the long lat part of the URL is preceded by a # (which is never passed to the server-side (upon which Drupal runs), remains on the browser but Javascript can see it) and 2) this long lat part doesn't 'belong' to any particular content queried by the view so another approach is needed (try to alter the way the URL for an openlayer map is constructed so that this is visible to the server). Nonetheless your answers are much appeciated.
Jul 12, 2013 at 16:05 comment added therobyouknow Hope to still accept this answer, once again thank you Jimajamma for your answer, Mołot for supporting it and also input from Clive. Update: although I can see the !1 etc. in the available rewrite tokens, I get this output literally in the URL %211 for !1 or %212 for !2 I think I'll come back to it later for another look, with a fresh pair of eyes.
Jul 12, 2013 at 14:32 comment added therobyouknow Thanks Mołot (+1) and Jimajamma - this has now started to appear and I'll experiment further to confirm - I think something is a bit 'flakey' with my setup as these did not show before. If all's well I would like to accept Jimajamma's answer (thanks Mołot - I'll upvote all your posts, when I come back to confirm...)

Jul 12, 2013 at 13:32 comment added therobyouknow I've never seen the !2 or !3 notation before as tokens in the rewrite results for a view, I have to admit though I hope it works with some advice on where I am going wrong with using it as per last comment.
Jul 12, 2013 at 13:24 comment added therobyouknow Jimajamma so would I, for example, put !2 or [!2] directly in the text box for 'rewrite this field' - as in: i44.tinypic.com/4rrgy0.png - this doesn't seem to work, as this screen shot shows - !2 or [!2] is output. By the way I am (necessarily) using aggregation so don't know whether this is interfering - see screenshot: i44.tinypic.com/2vmc84m.png Reason for aggregation here: drupal.stackexchange.com/a/79064/1082 (thanks for your input so far Jimajamma)
