I know this is a little bit of a general question, but any advice on how to create a facebook-style Messaging Inbox using Drupal?

My friend and I understand and use Ajax and db/entity queries.. but don't know how to approach this problem. We've got a "Message" content type with all the fields required for this type of content. We are more concerned with the Front end part than the backend...

Otherwise, we've considered using views but the same problem remains as to how to display them using AJAx...

Thanks for the help!

PS: If this is not the right place to post a more "General" type question, please let me know where I can post such a question!

It appears the Private Message module may be of use in this scenario:

Also, the Message module appears promising as well:

  • Hmm, we actually already have a custom messaging system working and all, but are trying to create a Single page for users to go to to read & create messages using AJAX for asynchronousity... Do those modules use AJAX for their forms or anything? /: Thanks though – glesage Jan 17 '14 at 2:28
  • I haven't actually tried either of those modules. From the screen shots, privatemsg looks like it doesn't use AJAX, and message looks like it may use AJAX. If you need to use your custom content type, and AJAX forms, check out this page for more info: drupal.org/node/752056 – tyler.frankenstein Jan 17 '14 at 3:30
  • Hmm very cool, there's is indeed of lot of useful info there, thanks tyler.frankenstein! – glesage Jan 17 '14 at 14:14
