Is there a WYSIWYG editor that would do highlighting for typed in text?

I'm looking for something similar to the way Notepad++, and similar, does highlighting depending on the file opened. Doesn't format the output of the file (php stays php, but it gets colored based on "s, tags and what not.

Or is their a way to get CKEditor (or similar) to do this?

I've done a brief looking and haven't seen anything like what I'm looking for.

EDIT
Just to be clear: I'm not looking to format the output of the field; I'm looking to format the field while inputing PHP code (or similar). I can use Geshi or SyntaxHighlighter to format the output of code easily. I haven't figured out how to format the code on the input field.

I want the right side (PHP field content entering in Drupal 7) to look like the left side (Notepad++): pretty colors, parenthesis matching, keyword highlights, etc.

This question appears to be off-topic. The users who voted to close gave this specific reason:

  • "Questions asking to recommend or find a book, tool, module, theme, distribution, tutorial, or other off-site resource are off-topic for Drupal Answers as they tend to attract opinionated answers and spam. Instead, describe the problem and what has been done so far to solve it." – kiamlaluno

For output highlighting, you want the Syntax highlighter module. That syntax highlighting module integrates with a couple of other WYSIWYG modules, and you can find great setup instructions.

For in-editor syntax highlighting, you will want the Wysiwyg CodeMagic module. It depends on CodeMagic, TinyMCE, and Drupal's WYSIWYG module. That will allow you to do input highlighting, as demonstrated here:

  • Unless I'm missing something, I haven't figured out how to format the input field with highlighting. I can use SH or Geshi to format the output, but that's not what I'm looking for (Updated question to clarify where I want highlighting). – WernerCD Oct 5 '11 at 13:20
  • I've updated it with info for input-highlighting. – BenjaminRH Oct 5 '11 at 14:22

Ace Code Editor is a new, hot, standalone module for D7 (library required). It currently features 18 themes and syntax styling for major languages, including PHP. Also, there is a chance Ace will be supported in the near future, by a Wysiwyg module, see progress.
