I am upgrading Drupal on a large multimedia site using drush pm-update. Creating a backup and then restoring the site from the backup takes a long time. The size of the backup is in several gigabytes.

During this time drush output does not change. It stays in

Note: A backup of your project will be stored to backups directory if it is not managed by a supported version control system.
Note: If you have made any modifications to any file that belongs to one of these projects, you will have to migrate those modifications after updating.
Do you really want to continue with the update process? (y/n): y

I wonder if it would be possible to have some kind of progress indicator at this stage?

Update

Following @JDrupal comment I noticed that there is another question regarding Drupal updates. However that question was about an error during the upgrade.

The error message was:

The external command could not be executed due to an application error.
<br />
<b>Parse error</b>:  syntax error, unexpected '{' in <b>/home/content/XXX/XXX/drush/includes/environment.inc</b> on line <b>518</b><br />
, code: <em class="placeholder">255</em>)

I am having no such error, just missing any kind of progress indicator for drush backup and restore during copying. If copying were done using rsync the --info=progress could have been used.
