I've setup a Multilingual website in Drupal 8 using the default content translation bundle and tried to generate a XML sitemap using the Simple Sitemap module, but the default way the sitemap generated has hreflang tags, which we don't need.

I tried using the latest version of the module (3.0) and creating a new variant, german | de_hreflang | GermanMap, but I get this error.

Line 2: The variant german is of a sitemap type de_hreflang that does not exist.

I need to have two separate sitemaps generated for the english and german languages, the pages are separated via /en and /de respectively

I went through the answer for Defining a sitemap variant as well, but it doesn't give any detail on how it can be configured, neither does the blog article linked to in that answer. Any advice on how this could be rectified?

I'm voting to close this question as off-topic because it's a bug report that should be reported to the module's issue queue. Really, the person maintaining this module is a really nice person and usually answers any request within the first 24 hours. – leymannx Feb 21 '19 at 8:47
