I am looking for a way to send out an email to a list of users once a week in Drupal. My obvious choice was Rules Scheduler, but that has not been ported.

Is there a preferred way to do this in Drupal 8?

  • It's open souce, so what is stopping you from porting the missing pieces? – Pierre.Vriens Mar 29 '19 at 16:13
  • As far as I know the port is already underway by current maintainers, and DRY should be practiced where possible. However your comment is irrelevant to the question asked. If you know of a preferred way to use existing core Drupal resources to create a scheduling system not based on Rules I would appreciate to know more. – Laurence Fass Apr 17 '19 at 11:30
  • Update: Rules scheduler has been ported through an additional module: Rules Essentials. This makes it possible to loop through a list of emails and send emails with tokens. Not very easy to use at the moment. – Laurence Fass May 29 '19 at 12:05

This can be accomplished by using Views, Ultimate Cron, and a custom module:

1) Create a view with the list of emails that you want to send.

2) Create a custom module to loop through the view results and send the emails.

3) Use Ultimate Cron to schedule it to run once a week.
