One of my sites does not update properly with composer. I manually put in the new 8.8.4 core into web and then do:

[~/www]# rm -rf vendor composer.lock [~/www]# composer update --no-dev --with-dependencies
    **1/2: http://repo.packagist.org/p/provider-latest$62ccd99f861def4651d7187b8892e7ab1e12003d285d1817c6aa66796e035b1e.json

> DrupalProject\composer\ScriptHandler::checkComposerVersion Loading composer repositories with package information Updating dependencies [~/www]# composer install --no-dev
> DrupalProject\composer\ScriptHandler::checkComposerVersion Loading composer repositories with package information Updating dependencies

 [~/www]# ls cgi-bin/ composer.json dr@ drush/ robots.txt scripts/ vendor.old/ web/

But the new vendor and composer.lock are not created. I never see the highlighted lines on any of my other sites. What is wrong?

composer.json

Composer works properly at home with this site, and I transferred the whole public_html directory up to my provider, but composer will not do updates there as shown above.

I just did this again.

And you can see that admin_toolbar was not updated. As also verified by the updates page.

And then at home where php is 7.2.5 on LEAP 15.1:

And you've confirmed the version of composer is the same in both environments? As are PHP settings, etc? – Clive Mar 24 at 15:10
  • I did for composer, since I thought this might be the cause. They are all on Php 7.3 or 7.4. I have 6 sites I manage, and when composer works, it is wonderful. But I get many unexplained errors. – James Rome Mar 24 at 17:04
  • I just did this again. – James Rome Mar 24 at 17:23
