I was trying unsuccessfully to override (and eliminate) table.css from the Boostrap Barrio theme. The pertinent lines from bootstrap_barrio.info.yml are:

libraries:
  - bootstrap_barrio/global-styling
libraries-extend:
  ckeditor_stylesheets:
    - css/components/table.css /* Assume this is for the editor, showing just in case */

and from bootstrap_barrio.libraries.yml:

global-styling:
  css:
    component:
      css/components/table.css: {}

The documentation states specifically

[The path of the most recent override] should be the full path to the file.

In my own sub-theme's .info.yml file, right after the libraries: section, I had tried:

libraries-override:
  bootstrap_barrio/global-styling:
    css:
      component:
        /themes/contrib/bootstrap_barrio/css/components/table.css: false

Changing to a relative path fixed the problem, despite the apparent guidelines in the documentation to use the full path.

libraries-override:
  bootstrap_barrio/global-styling:
    css:
      component:
        css/components/table.css: false

So, why don't the absolute paths seem to be working as documented?
