It is very time consuming to define fields, set their types and validation while creating a content type. It's a nightmare if the fields are exceeding in numbers (say more then 10).

Is there any way to define all the fields, their types, structures, validations one time on a page and generate the whole content type at once?

  • You can go for creating CT programatically, otherwise possibly we don't have any as such approach. And, default approach that Drupal follows is quite standard one. – dhrubaj Jul 11 '13 at 8:23

There is none, and there probably will not be one. Drupal is modularised, pluggable system. Each and every module can provide it's own field types, validators, widgets. They have custom settings defined in their modules. There are per field settings, and settings specific for a field in a given content type. Module to provide it all on one screen would need to know about all these modules and their form elements, and there are no hooks for that now. It would be a big job to hack it together with what's provided.

  • Thanks for your answer Molot. But I hope you'll agree that it is quite time consuming in anyway. I have a form with around 50 fields and I'm just collecting my strengths to start developing it in Drupal. Please suggest how I can expedite the content type development and could save average 20 seconds on 3 screens for each field? – Farrukh Jul 16 '13 at 17:46
  • @Farrukh well, it's speed vs capabilities. Drupal is on the side of capabilities. And yea, I did make content types with 50+ fields. Not so bad. – Mołot Jul 16 '13 at 19:00
