I need functionality like facebook's instant display of images. I tested the MetaTags Open Graph support feature with the addition of the OpenGraph Filter module, which works effectively to translate the display of links to the site's image and page title using the OpenGraph info when the page has those tags, but pages that lack the "OG" tags only display the title. Additionally, the url image/title/etc won't display in edit mode as needed, but only after saving of the node or comment.

Is there a more effective module or Javascript solution for handling this type of functionality? I am needing to get this done on a tight budget, time-wise, so I am hoping for a module, but a javascript solution may be helpful if I can load it for the right forms.

Thanks in advance!

  • @Ursula, Thanks, but I've already tried OpenGraph Filter with mixed results. Only works on OG enabled sites, and then only after saving. I need it to work dynamically, just like facebook. As user types in a link, the target link's preview needs to populate in whatever div I pass it. The websnapr recommendation looks interesting, but I'm kind of hoping to do this client-side for now. Thanks. – Jav Jan 10 '14 at 4:59
  • Maybe drupal.org/project/fbsmp is more what you are looking for - unfortunately only unstable, but could be a start. I didn't try it out, but the description look promising. – Ursula Jan 10 '14 at 5:45
  • Thanks @Ursula, I'll check it out. Also found out about an OpenGraph library I need to check out, github.com/scottmac/opengraph. – Jav Jan 10 '14 at 14:31
