Printing a block in node.tpl.php
I think module_invoke() is correct and you can simply call that in your tpl file. However,
use
print $block['subject'];
print $block['content'];
instead of
print render($block);

It is better not to use the id.
You could use this module Block Class which allows you to add a class to the block and you can then style your css using that class.
