About

I've been developing software for over 45 years. I began in the age of punch cards Cobol and Fortran. My first major task was to replace a Fortran Network Management System (who remembers modem baud rates of 1200 - 9600bps?) and develop of one of the first commercial Modem Network Management Systems on a Unix based system when Unix was first licensed to the public by AT&T. My knowledge of C language and advanced C was first taught to me in a seminar at Bell Labs in the 70s.

I eventually moved into the field of portable protocol stack development and for nearly 20 years developed and implemented software for use in embedded systems. I participated in forums for the general ratification of Frame Relay and ATM protocols (built on the ideas and work for x.25). I've written everything from language compilers (in LEX and YACC) to ASIC interfaces in C;

I have been in senior positions during the development of several Network Management systems with companies like Motorola, Gigapacket, Unisphere Networks and Juniper Networks; today I primarily develop backend libraries and interfaces written in Java Script and PHP for web site development - a very long way from where I came from.

To some, I am a mentor; to others, I ask to many questions and challenge to many ideas -- but that is part of my job - question everything... fight for your ideas and strive to be awesome in everything you do - something you only learn through experience.
