For me dpm($variable) didn't work whereas krumo($variable) worked.

I just solved the problem with a simple print dpm($variable), not just dpm($variable). After I read @svetlios answer I found out I didn't had print $messages in my page.tpl.php anymore; unfortunately, editing the page template wasn't an option for me.

1. Sometimes krumo($variable) might work when dpm($variable) doesn't.

2. Sometimes print dpm($variable) might work when dpm($variable) doesn't.

3. 2. might also be the solution when there's no print $messages in your page.tpl.php anymore. Maybe you can add it back.
